Planting and maintaining a garden is a great way to prepare your family for emergencies by providing a supply of food independent of modern supply chains as well as decreasing fear of the unknown when working with the natural world. This episode is a general overview of gardening concepts and ideas.

- You can garden with or without a yard
- Collecting seeds overtime, even before you have a space to grow can make it easier to start when you do have access to space
- Things learned from our first experience with family as adults:
- Gardening organic is definitely possible, but it can be very labor intensive using modern gardening methods.Permaculture is a way to do it with minimal labor
- Plants are similar to people in that they have unique needs and desires to be fulfilled in order to grow
- Permaculture is any set of practices that:
- Turn waste into resources
- Minimize work and maximize yield
- Restores topsoil
- General gardening concepts to start at any scale:
- Think like a plant - what does it want and need to thrive?
- Don’t give up when things don’t go as planned – learn from the experiences and keep trying
- Get help from people who know what they are doing. There are many resources online or in-person at local plant nurseries or other neighbors
- What does gardening have to do with emergency preparation?
- It is an opportunity to be more capable of supplying needs so that we do not have to be afraid of the unknown beyond the modern, quick-gratification lifestyle we currently experience.

- If we have a comfortable relationship with the natural world, we won’t be afraid to interact with it if our modern world is disrupted.
